We walked along the foreshore, following the Lancashire Coastal Way from Bolton-le-Sands to Morecambe. At low tide it is possible to remain on the sand or mud the all the way to Bare Ayre, a mile short of the Stone Jetty. This gives a surprisingly wild and adventurous feel to the walk. Don't take this too far, though. Stay close to shore, ensuring you know the state of the tide and making sure there's no water between you and safety. There are quicksands in Morecambe Bay too, so if in doubt of your footing, go back the way you came.

Over Wyresdale church sits on a belvedere overlooking the upper valley of the River Wyre. Having grown fond of these uplands that link the fringe of wilderness with comfortable woods and fields I was surprised yesterday evening to discover this church, where quirky artworks heighten the sense of discovery. Yesterday evening's photos conclude a set that I started last year, recording cycle journeys on roads where you can ride undisturbed for miles, with another cyclist being as likely an encounter as a motor vehicle.
